Learn how to use embeddings, vector databases, and similarity measures to solve real-world problems. These powerful tools power many of the products and services we use today, from search engines to social media platforms. In this session, you’ll learn the basics of these technologies and how to use them to build your own innovative applications.

  • Embeddings are a powerful way to represent data in a high-dimensional space.
  • Vector databases provide efficient storage and retrieval of embedding data.
  • Similarity measures can be used to compare embeddings and identify similar data points.

You will learn how to use these powerful tools to solve real-world problems in a variety of domains, including natural language processing, product recommendation, and image search.

What Will Be Covered

In this session, you will,

  • Get an overview of what are embeddings? How and why are they useful?
  • Gain experience generating embeddings during a short hands-on exercise.
  • Get an overview of what are vector databases, and more importantly, learn how to choose a vector database that’s right for your use case.
  • Understand the different similarity measures (such as cosine similarity and Euclidean distance, amongst others), and more importantly, learn how to choose the right similarity measure for your task.
  • Gain an understanding to a level of details to be able to answer questions like:
    • What is semantic search?
    • How does it work?
    • Why does it matter?
    • Can context be used for search?
  • Gain familiarity with a few use cases of semantic search.
  • Participate in a short hands-on exercise using the application of semantic search for a real-world use case.

Why Attend This Session?

πŸš€ This session will help with an upcoming hands-on project-based learning session where the learners will build and deploy a semantic search engine, first for text documents and later for images.
